Are We Doing Enough?

Over and over I have said how we need to do more to help these victims but what is the government and other people doing to help these girls? I have found that victims can go to special facilities that will help girls overcome their fear of going back into the world. This is their rehab. This is what helps them feel safe again and this is how the get to reconnect with their families year=after being aways for so long, but too many do not get to experience this sensation. Many girls do get treated from being drugged and brainwashed and get help for all the trauma they have endured, but again too many do not get to go home and are killed or left to die for. So the big question is are we doing enough?

These girls getting treated what are we really doing to help these girls? Yes we have places where they can go to get help but what are we doing to prevent them from getting trafficked? Many protocols are being put into place but the biggest thing we are doing to help this problem is to raise awareness and help people see that this is a big problem. With raising awareness we can help girls who can be targeted be safer when they are out on the streets and help people see that they can do so much with just helping spread the word about sex trafficking. Also people are strengthening partnerships and by doing this we can spread the word faster and easier. The more coordination is done with this problem the better.

Just raising awareness obviously isn't going to solve the problem completely but it is a start and with every big revolution and big step in peace started with one small step. This step is raising awareness.

Anna's Story

Anna was a twelve year old girl when she ran away from home and not long after was she grabbed by a trafficker named Ted. This happens to many young girls, some just walking home get taken, others made to think they can trust a man and the forced into trafficking. Many girls in the us and all over world get their lives taken away from them with no choice. This happened to Anna. When she was grabbed off the street she never agreed to get into the trafficker's car he forced her to get in. He drove for a while and made Anna leave all of what she knew. Ted regularly beat Anna and made her have sex with random truckers who would pay to have sex with Anna. "One time when I wanted to leave, he filled up the bathtub with water, poured a bottle of gin into it and made me sit in it with open sores. More than once, he would hold a gun to my head and tell me I had to do sex like he wanted for as long as he wanted or he would blow my head off." This was something that Anna shared. As you can see traffickers do not care the age of their victims all they care about is how much money they can make off of one girl before she is no longer "good" meaning no longer able to have sex with men due to the fact that they are either over drugged or close to dying and even have diseases. So many girls try to run away but are too afraid because they know they can never leave the hell they live in. Anna is not the only girl this has happened to there are many other girls that share their stories so people can see that we need to do more to help these victims.

Some Statistics on Sex Trafficking

“Each year, as many as 100,000-300,000 American children are at risk of being trafficked for commercial sex in the United States.” This is one statistics from "Human Trafficking Estimates Statistics" article. This number shocks people because they do not realize how big of a problem sex trafficking really is. This stat. is just so shocking because this is only the number of kids who get pushed into sex trafficking no teenagers or young adults included. The fact that this many children are being taken from their homes to exploited for sex and money at such a young age that it makes me wonder is people even realize that this could be happening in their own home town.

The picture shown above shows a statistic that makes people wonder how can this many people be trafficked and us not be aware of. The fact is that people are aware of it they just can't put the picture together. Most people who are trafficked are people who have been kidnapped, ran away from home, promised a better life, or even be in a relationship with a pimp and not know until they get trafficked. This problem is happening all over the world. So many other these victims have a bright future in their live's but is ruined by the fact that they get taken and exploited. If people would become more educated in this topic they would be more likely to try and help reduce this number.

Two Articles on Sex Trafficking

With having read two con articles on sex trafficking I got to see how people view this topic. The first article is "Human Trafficking: A Crime Against Humanity" by Greg Ferency.  The second article is "Enslaved in America: Sex Trafficking in the United States" by Tina Frundt. The first article goes by statistics and using the logical approach and facts about sex trafficking while the second article goes by the author having been a victim of sex trafficking telling her own story using pathos.

With reading both I have seen that a pathos is a good way of coming into a topic because it can really catch the attention but no one wants t read a sad story all the time. The reason the second article caught my eye was because the author did tell her story but she also had some logos in her article by showing some statistics and saying that it can happen to anyone and that we do need to try and find a way to help victims of sex trafficking.

In the first article it mostly caught my attention just because that statistics really do shock some people and how these girls get pushed into sex trafficking.  It does also say that we need to do something to try and help victims more but with both articles read The pathos article still won me over not just because of the fact that she makes you feel like you have to do something but that she gives resources and ways that we can help people because I have not read many articles that have that same approach. So over all the best article is one that can give examples of people who have gone through the problem they are talking about.

Background on Sex Trafficking

Sex trafficking has affected many lives and with how things are going sex trafficking will just get worse in the future. In the past women who were sex slaves would never be able to escape their horrible fate. If they tried to run away they would just be found by their taker or "Pimp" and be beat to death or be beat but never be able to have the chance to escape again. Now in the present things have changed a little more we now help victims who have escaped the sex trafficking life. For the future I personally see no change, maybe change in how we deal with victims but no change in how many young girls and women are put into sex trafficking.

"From the 1600’s to the 1900’s, there were approximately 9 million slaves. To date, it is estimated that there have been over 27 million human trafficking victims worldwide."(CVC.org) In the past we see that many women were put to work in sex trafficking but back then women were sold into sex trafficking by their own family. Some victims would be taken from their home at night and forced to work as a sex slave. “2 million children are forced into prostitution every year. Half of them live in Asia.” (webster.edu) Many sex slaves are starting to become children and now we see that there is three times more victims and this is because women are still being taken and forced to work as a sex slave but other women are being promised false hope. The people who run the sex slaves target young girls who are living the streets and have no chance to make good money anymore so they promise the girls a better life where they will make good money and never have to worry about how their life will turn out, but if only the young girls knew it was a trap into becoming a sex slave. For the future I see the amount of women in sex trafficking staying around the same but I see that the victims of sex trafficking who escape will be treated back to a point where they can live life not afraid to be walking out alone and be happy with who they are.

With so many problems going on the world people seem to overlook the fact the sex trafficking is just getting worse. Many people will not pay attention to this issue because it does not have to do with their well being but if it was someone the loved became a sex slave then they would want to get involved. Many lives will keep getting ruined many of them being childrens lives if we do not pay attention to this issue.

Sex Trafficking Introduction

For many years women have been tricked into becoming a sex slave. Sex trafficking ruins thousands of woman's lives because they are promised a better life then what they have, but if only they knew they are trapping themselves in exploitation. I have picked to study sex trafficking because it amazes me how many  women get sold, tricked, and forced into sex trafficking, and when I have read some of the survivors stories it makes me want to read more into sex trafficking.

When women get put into sex trafficking they are abused, brainwashed, and drugged. Some women have to have sex with 30 men a day. Some women die as sex slave and some women are lucky enough to escape but have to live the rest of their life afraid to ever leave their home again. In this blog I will be researching 5 big questions on sex trafficking and they are:
1. What is it?
2. How many women are affected?
3. What countries have the most sex trafficking?
4. What can we do to stop it?
5. Are we doing enough to help the victims that escape?
